Independent School

To accommodate the school’s mission, a Section 21 Company (non-profit making and independent) secondary school was instituted. The school is registered as Mathews Phosa College with the local provincial Education Department for the purpose of accreditation and examination. All funding would come from school and hostel fees paid by parents. In order not to be exclusive the fees would be kept as low as possible to afford students of limited financial means the opportunity to also attend.

Holistic Education

In order to attain the goals set for the school’s mission, a holistic approach of education was implemented from the school’s inception. A mind crammed with information does not benefit the learner – experiencing the practical application of the knowledge gives rise to understanding. Leadership potential needs to be identified and cultivated to develop into ability. Moral values stem from belief. Religious values bring security and give direction.

Mathews Phosa College is situated in quiet and peaceful surroundings on an estate 60km west of Nelspruit in Mpumalanga and within three hours drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The situation of the school is scenic and safe with plenty of flora (wild flowers and trees) and fauna (monkeys, duiker and birds). The mountains, trees, birds and animals are new experience to city dwellers; an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The natural surroundings and seclusion are most conducive to learning.

Umalusi Accreditation:

The school has been granted 7 years of Accreditation by Umalusi.

Accreditation Number: 16SCHO100131PA
